Our brave military men and women serve and protect our freedom and our country in many capacities.
Here is a way YOU Can Serve Them!

Collect new and used DVD's and send to our Troops!

Our fighting men and women overseas need DVD's to watch as a diversion from the reality of war.
This is your chance to Support Our Troops.
DVDs and CDs (used or new) can be sent to AMVETS who sends them to our fighting men and women overseas.
Their website states:
"This 21st Century digital miracle is the key to diversion from mission fatigue. Entertainment, for an hour or two, provided by a DVD is frequently the only diversion for weeks at a time.
Quality, safe entertainment is difficult at best for our U.S. Armed Forces serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Even traditional activities such as baseball and softball games are at a high risk because of IEDs, snipersminesbombs and other terrorist activities."

Just try to imagine their situation.

AMVETS Task Force DVD is an appeal to Patriotic Americans to donate their new and used DVDs.

You can send DVD's to AMVETS and they will ship your DVD's to our fighting men and women overseas.
Our son, Alexander, is collecting DVD's from friends and family to send to the troops.
You can too.
It is very easy. Here are some options -
PERSONAL- Search your DVD collection for movies you can send.
FRIENDS-    Collect DVD's from friends to send
GROUPS-    Organize a big collection effort as a class or group project
(church groups, boy scouts, girl scouts, camp fire girls, community service organizations, class projects etc).
BUY DVD's-  Buy new or used DVD's to send to the troops.
Used DVD's are inexpensive and have always worked perfectly fine for our family.

"Keep on loving each other as brothers"- Hebrews 13:1

For our friends reading this post -Xander is happy to pickup the DVD's at school or from your home or office.

The program is called AMVETS Task Force DVD -click here for detailed information.

ThanksLiving - Live with a Thankful Attitude

Praising and thanking God is our privilege and joy.
Did you know that God created us to praise him and bring Him glory?
Glory in this context is defined as "adoring praise or worshipful thanksgiving"-

"everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory
whom I formed and made" -Isaiah 43:7

How would you describe yourself ?
Living thankfully?

Or do you generally have an attitude of indifference?
Or perhaps you live a life so busy you don't even think of being thankful?
I can be guilty of these!
Perhaps you are someone who criticizes.

Do you often complain? Maybe you don't even notice if you complain.
Test yourself-- take 1 day and try to count how many times you complain to yourself or to others. You may be surprised.
I was.
Watch for my upcoming post entitled "A Complaint Free World".

Our loving God commands us to praise him continually.
Wow! It is easier to know this is His desire than to actually be able to fulfill it.
I am no expert but I do know that the purposeful and consistent practice
of being grateful to God in all things requires each of us, Christian or not,
to make a choice.
For God, His will and His way for our life or for yourself with your will and your way!
Heart, mind, and soul.

Living with an attitude of thankfulness is God's desire for us.  The Bible tells us so.

Next Sunday at our church we will be hearing a sermon on this topic.
It will be the first part of a Series called Thanks Living. I will post a link to each sermon when it s available online.
UPDATE January 2012-
Here is the link to the 2 sermons. Start with the 11/27/11 Sermon.

Here are some Bible verses for you to contemplate.

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise---the fruit of lips that confess his name.

Good Morning God

"Good morning God. This is your day. I am your child. Show me your way."
The words above are lyrics to a song.
I used to sing this song every day to wake up each of my sons, Alexander and Dylan

Climbing Joseph's Coat
I would sing to them as I entered their bedrooms
then I would open the curtains to let the sun shine into their room and say;

"Good morning flowers.
Good morning trees.
Good morning birds
and Good morning bees"

I'd hug each precious child and maybe give him a "scratch back" to start the day with JOY!

Joyful for God, Life, Love, Faith, Family
and our Hope in Christ!

I still sing this song today. Now I am singing it to God as a prayer.
It always puts a smile on my face and joy in my heart!

Although the lyrics are simple they are full of meaning.

"For God is King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise"
Psalm 47:7

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever"
Psalm 136:1

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ."
Ephesians 1:3

"Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever"
Psalm 145:2

"Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above
and on the earth below. There is no other."
Deuteronomy 4:39

"Acknowledge that the LORD is God! He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture."
Psalm 100:3

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14

"And do not call anyone one earth 'father,'
for you have one Father, and he is in heaven"
Matthew 23:9

But to all who believed him and accepted him he gave the right
to become children of God.
They are reborn--not with physical birth resulting from human passions or plan,
but a birth that comes from God.
John 1:12

"If we live, it's to honor the Lord. And if we die, it's to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."
Romans 14:8

(instead of following my own)

"Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths
Psalm 25:4

"If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,your right hand will hold me fast."
Psalm 139:10

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart;do not depend on your own understanding;
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

Jesus on TWITTER

Jesus on Twitter?? What might the twitter conversation have been like is Jesus' day?
Would you have "followed" him?

"Throughout the course of his public ministry, Jesus knew both the adoration and desertion of the crowds. Today, just as 2,000 years ago, the gospel asks a question that demands an answer: Will we follow?
This video illustrates this truth through the dynamic lens of a 21st-century social network." -Igniter Media

Check out this video called FOLLOW.

Jesus said to him, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

Wisdom -Part 2

I know, O Lord, that a man's life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.
Jeremiah 10:23

We belong to God who made us for his purposes!

Let each of us seek God's counsel, wisdom and will today ...
In making decisions .. In everything

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight"
Proverbs 3:5, Proverbs 3:6

"In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps."
Proverbs 16:9

"Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."
Proverbs 19:21

Do you know God, your Father?   Do you rely on Him?
If so, how often do you seek His wisdom and guidance?

Do you trust in yourself instead of God?
-choosing to "do what you want to do"?  Some of the time?  All of the time?

LOVE -the greatest gift from God

Read what God says about love.

1If I speak in the tonguesa of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love,
 I am nothing.
3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love,
I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, Love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13: 1-8
Love is the greatest gift from God. Do we love in the way God desires?

For most of us the answer is probably "no". The words "ALWAYS" in verse 7- those are "gotcha' words". So final. So perfect.
At times I manage to love in some of the ways listed above;however, if I examine myself honestly I often fail miserably in loving by God's standards.
I choose instead to stay in "my own little world" or "do my own thing".
That's pathetic in general and reprehensible in light of what God has done for me through Jesus.

So I pray today that God will enable me to bear the fruit of love.
He made me to be loving person.
I must stay close to God, seeking His constant guidance, desiring for His will and His plan for my life to be done. Think of others more and myself less. God 1st, my husband 2nd,my family 3rd, others 4th and me 5th.
The bible must serve as my guidebook to love and life.

What about you? What does this verse say to you today??
From verse 4-7 which aspect of loving others is the most difficult for you?
Are you generally kind?
Are you easily angered?
Are you mostly looking out for yourself or placing others needs first?
Do you brag or boast, placing yourself on a pedestal or are you humble and allow others to have their moment in the spotlight?

Let us thoughtfully consider which aspects of loving we need to improve upon the most.
Examine how you are loving this very day. This very moment.
Purpose to reach out to someone today and extend your love.

On October 2, Chuck Colson spoke at Watermark Community Church, which I attend.
Colson called our pastor Todd Wagner and said "I'm going to be in Dallas and I'd love to come preach in your church." Chuck said "I have not preached in a church in years." What a marvelous opportunity for us. (I've included a link to Chuck's sermon at the end of this post)
I am familiar with Colson's Prison Fellowship ministry. I serve in a prison ministry. After hearing Chuck speak I decided to discover more about the many facets of Chuck Colson.

His Christian ministries and outreach efforts are truly amazing and inspiring
I want to detail his work in this post in hopes you will be moved to review his websites, consider his ministries, connect to his Christian Worldview movement, listen to his broadcasts, read his writings and examine the Manhattan Declaration
-work with Eternal impact.

Who is Chuck Colson?
Chuck Colson is a Christian leader whom I greatly admire.
His work includes Prison Fellowship, Justice FellowshipThe Colson Center for Christian WorldviewBreak Point broadcasts, columns, a blog and Two-Minute Warning videos & commentaries. (See below for further information)
Chuck Colson became a Christian in 1974. He has a very interesting background and I invite you to perform a search on the internet to learn more about him.

What is Prison Fellowship?
Prison Fellowship is a Christian ministry started in 1976 by Chuck Colson, a former prison inmate
Colson,an aide to President Nixon, had been incarcerated for 7 months after being convicted on charges stemming from his involvement in the Watergate scandal.
His prison experience changed his life.
Prison Fellowship's mission is "to see the transformation of prisoners and their reconciliation to God, family, and community through the power and truth of Jesus Christ."
I volunteer in a prison ministry and see first hand how the love of Christ can change hearts, renew spirits and revive lives.

As quoted from the Prison Fellowship website- The Root Problem . . . The Root Solution

"At its core, crime is a moral and spiritual problem
When people have distorted values and attitudes, they make poor moral choices that can cause harm and destruction.
Since the core problem is moral and spiritual, the core solution must also be moral and spiritual. Authentic and lasting change must take place from the inside out—beginning with a reconciled relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Then, as people learn more about the truth and power of Christ, they start to think in a new way, act in a new way, and relate to others in a new way."
Programs include in-prison programs (mentoring, educational training, biblical training, Ex-Prisoner transition programs and the Angel Tree program which reaches out to the children of inmates at Christmas and beyond.

What is the Colson Center for Christian Worldview?

As stated on their website-The Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview is a ministry of BreakPoint, the worldview ministry that is closely associated with Prison Fellowship Ministries. Our mission is to seek the transformation of believers as they apply biblical thinking to all of life, enabling them to transform their communities through the grace and truth of Jesus Christ. BreakPoint provides a Christian perspective on today’s news and trends via radio, interactive media, and print."
Click here to watch  “Two Minute Warning”.  Each week a video commentary is delivered by Chuck speaking to current and timely cultural issues.  Explore past video's by searching the archives.
You can subscribe to receive TMW in your inbox each week.

What is the Manhattan Declaration?
It is a 4700-word Declaration on Christian conscience drafted and signed in 2009 by national religious leaders in the United States. Drafted by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson- originally signed by more than 150 Orthodox, Catholic and evangelical Christian leaders.

To quote the website
"The central concerns of the Manhattan Declaration – Life, Marriage and Liberty – have been treasured and defended by biblically guided churches throughout history and across traditions.  The Manhattan Declaration courageously addresses these vital issues of our day with principles that are consistent with the best values of the historic church.  Also, it helps today’s church speak with a new tone of respectful compassion in the national discourse.
Important for our Nation -The Manhattan Declaration is a statement of principles, not a political action plan.  The Declaration’s aim is to alert secular leaders and other influences of our culture that Christians of many different traditions are already united in fundamental convictions regarding biblical morality and conscience.
We are deeply concerned about legislative and judicial actions that:
deny value to the innocent, weak and aged;
dismantle historic protections and definitions for families, children and marriage;
and, impose legal strictures contrary to the constitutional freedoms long provided for people and institutions of faith in America.
The Declaration reminds the nation as well as the church that the Christian conscience is bound to Christ.  We cannot love him or our nation well if we refuse to address challenges to morality and liberty that we believe will unravel the social fabric that protects all her citizens."
